The 1st International Workshop on Photoelectrochemical Approaches to Sustainable Chemicals (PECS-25) is an autumn school inside the European OHPERA framework. The meeting aims to get together young students, early career researchers and well-recognized scientists in a relaxed atmosphere to facilitate and generate an exchange of scientific information and knowledge. The workshop will be held from November 26th to 28th 2025 in Castellón, a Mediterranean-style city in the east of Spain, with wide-ranging cultural and gastronomic activities, and beautiful sand-covered beaches. The meeting will feature 9 invited lectures and many oral presentations. The oral contributions will be selected from the attendants. The list of topics that will be covered is listed below: - Direct solar water splitting (hydrogen evolution, oxygen evolution…). - Direct solar-driven valorization reactions of CO2, biomass, organics, and/or plastics. - Novel semiconductor and co-catalyst materials for PEC (e.g., ternary oxides, perovskites, 2D materials, organics, MOFs, COFs, and SACs). - Novel architectures and approaches for PEC (e.g., heterojunction, Z-scheme, tandem, and decoupled cells or systems). - Advanced characterization techniques (e.g., in-situ, operando) of PEC systems covering e.g., performance, stability, charge transfer dynamics, and synthesis.
